Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed gratitude to Spanish officials, commending their firm stance against the joint military aggression by the criminal US-Israeli regimes against the Islamic Republic.
In a post on his X account on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian hailed the Spanish government’s responsible behavior in confronting the blatant violation of human rights by the criminal US-Israeli coalition.
He stated that Spain’s position demonstrates that still, ethics and awakened consciences remain in the Western world.
The president’s remarks followed condemnations from the highest levels of the Spanish government. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez earlier declared the unilateral military actions by Washington and Tel Aviv unacceptable. Sanchez warned that such attacks intensify tensions, fostering a more uncertain and hostile international order. He called for an immediate de-escalation and full respect for international law.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares also voiced deep concern, stating that the attacks have triggered a new cycle of violence, conflict, and instability in the Middle East with unpredictable consequences. Minister Albares emphasized that the region must not allow war to become a normalized tool for establishing a balance of power. He urged the European Union to advocate for equilibrium and reason in the crisis, asserting that violence breeds chaos rather than peace, stability, or democracy.
Analysts note that the joint US-Israeli invasion, which began on February 28, 2026, following the martyrdom of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, disregarded ongoing indirect negotiations. In response, Iran launched precise retaliatory strikes against Israeli positions and US bases, citing its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warned that further escalation will invite a harsher reaction.
